RECAP: Ravens top Gee-Gees in Capital Hoops clash
The Gee-Gees women's basketball team logged their second loss of the 2021-22 season on Friday, dropping a 63-43 result to their rivals from Carleton at the Ravens' Nest.
After a competitive start, the Gee-Gees led by five points at halftime. Carleton was able to turn the tides in the third quarter, clamping down on defence to hold the Gee-Gees to just four points in the frame.
For Ottawa, Savannah Provo had a strong performance off the bench, providing a spark by hitting four three-pointers for 12 points on the night, while also adding five rebounds. Brigitte Lefebvre-Okankwu also had 12 points and added nine rebounds. The pair were the only Ottawa players to finish in double-figures in the game.
In all, the Gee-Gees shot 26.7 per cent from the field and lost the turnover battle 20-15. Carleton capitalized off of the Ottawa miscues, adding 17 points off of turnovers.
Given capacity limits in place, the usually boisterous matchup between teams for the Capital Hoops Classic was a much quieter affair on campus at Carleton rather than at TD Place Arena, where the rivalry event moved for the 2020 edition. The Ravens improved their overall record in the annual rivalry matchup to 9-5 since its inception in 2008.
Up next, the Gee-Gees have another test as they host the nationally sixth-ranked and undefeated Rams at Montpetit Hall on Friday (Feb. 25) and Saturday (Feb. 26). Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. on Friday, and 2 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are available for purchase at tickets.geegees.ca
