PREVIEW: Women’s basketball geared up for home opener against Lakehead, Brock

OTTAWA GAME NOTES

  • Major stat leaders
  • The Gee-Gees earned two wins on the road over the weekend and will be looking to bring that momentum into their home opening weekend where they face Lakehead and Brock.
  • Point guard, Natsuki Szczokin, leads the way in points, assists, and steals for the Gee-Gees. While Szczokin continues to be a key player for the Gee-Gees, the team has seen production from various players early in the season, including from newcomers, Ariane Saumure, Allie McCarthy and Victoria Brideau.
  • Ottawa's forwards have put up notable numbers in the opening three games. Between Brideau, McCarthy, Melina De lulio, and Emily Payne, the Gee-Gees have plenty of options.

LAKEHEAD GAME NOTES

  • Major stat leaders
    • Points (per game): Ally Burke – 18.3
    • Assists (per game): Kirpa Brar – 4.0
    • Rebounds (per game): Kelly-Ann Coulombe – 10.0
  • The Thunderwolves have only faced two opponents so far this season, losing their two opening matches to TMU and beating York in two games the following weekend.
  • Both of Lakehead's losses were on the road. TMU took the wins 70-53 and 75-50.
  • Ally Burke is ranked fourth in the OUA with 18.3 points per game. Burke's highest scoring game of the year was a 22-point performance against York.

  • Like the Gee-Gees, the Badgers are only three games into their schedule. The Badgers are coming off a road loss to TMU after collecting two wins to start the season.
  • Brock leads the OUA with a FG percentage of 41.8 and is ranked third with 12.0 steals per game.
