The Gee-Gees women's basketball team continued their unbeaten streak with a clean sweep of their weekend in Waterloo, beating Laurier 74-57 on Friday and a 72-43 win at Waterloo on Saturday.
Against Laurier, Ottawa was bolstered by a dominant second quarter to build an 18-7 advantage, taking control of the game and never looking back. The Gee-Gees defensive presence helped force 32 turnovers that turned into 30 points on the night.
Natsuki Szczokin logged an impressive performance with 21 points, six assists, and two steals, while Allie McCarthy added 20 points and seven rebounds. Emily Payne contributed 11 points and five rebounds in the win.
The following night at Waterloo, the Gee-Gees flipped what was a back-and-forth game into a blowout in the second half, outscoring the Warriors 35-15 in the final two frames to earn the win.
Szczokin continued her outstanding weekend with 18 points, nine steals, and five assists. Bailey Russell also had 18 points on 7-for-8 shooting, including four three-pointers. It was the second game of 30-plus turnovers for their opponents, as the Gee-Gees scored 36 points off Waterloo's miscues.
Securing two more wins, Ottawa now improves to 9-0 overall and 4-0 on the OUA regular season.
