RECAP: Gee-Gees defeat Lakehead in return to regular season action

The U SPORTS top-ranked Gee-Gees women's basketball team earned a dominant win over the Lakehead Thunderwolves in Thunder Bay on Friday night. Ottawa took a 16-7 lead early and would not look back, en route to a 71-40 final score to restart the regular season for a new semester.

Led by a pair of 12-point performances from their back court in Alissa Provo and Natsuki Szczokin, the Gee-Gees now improve to 11-2 on the regular season.

Provo and Szczokin both also packed the stat sheet, with Provo adding seven rebounds and four steals to go along with shooting 56% from the floor in the win. Szczokin seven assists and a steal, as she advanced to second in team history in assists, and third all-time in scoring.

Allie McCarthy was also lights out for the Garnet and Grey, hitting four of her five shots for 11 points to go along with seven rebounds.

Ottawa will take back to the road to Northern Ontario next weekend, where they will pay visits to division rivals in Laurentian (4-9) and Nipissing (4-9). The matchups on Friday and Saturday nights are both set for 6 p.m. tipoffs and the games will be streaming live on OUA.tv.
