RECAP: #4 Gee-Gees power to win over Queen’s in OUA quarters
The Gee-Gees women's basketball team earned a dominant 71-52 win over the Queen's Gaels in the OUA quarterfinals at Montpetit Hall on Saturday night.
After an even battle through the first quarter of action, Ottawa sprung a 19-point lead in the second quarter, the same distance they would keep throughout the rest of the game.
The Gee-Gees hit 40 per cent of their shots and outrebounded the Gaels by a 45-27 margin in the win. Queen's turned the ball over 21 times, resulting in 20 points for the Gee-Gees. In all, Ottawa dominated the paint scoring 30 points to the Gaels' 16.
Allie McCarthy led the way for the Gee-Gees with 20 points, seven points, and two steals. Natsuki Szczokin had 13 points, eight assists, four rebounds, and four steals. Emily Payne rounded out scorers in double figures with 11 points to go along with six rebounds and two steals.
