NEWS: Szczokin and McCarthy Selected as OUA All-Stars
Natsuki Szczokin and Allie McCarthy were recognized by the OUA on Wednesday as the conference unveiled its OUA All-Stars and Major Award winners for 2024-25 in advance of the Critelli Cup conference championship.
Szczokin was named an OUA First Team All-Star for the second straight season and has been recognized by the conference in all five of her seasons in Garnet and Grey.
This was the second straight season that Szczokin led OUA in assists, as she dished out 4.8 per game to establish a career high. Remarkably, she also set a career high with 17.1 points per game, which ranked fifth in OUA.
And Szczokin wasn't done there. Defensively, she led U SPORTS with 4.0 steals per game. Szczokin is a Master's student in International Development and Globalization from Barrie, Ont., and became the Gee-Gees all-time career leading scorer among guards, finishing her career with 1224 points in 102 regular season games. She also holds the team record for career steals with 263, and is second in program history with 404 assists.
Allie McCarthy was named to the OUA Third Team of All-Stars in her second season in the conference. The Human Kinetics student from Grand Falls, N.B., was Ottawa's second-leading scorer with 11.6 points per game. Her field goal percentage of 46.9 ranked eighth in OUA. McCarthy also collected 5.2 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game.
As a team, Ottawa held opponents to just 53.2 points per game, ranking fourth in U SPORTS and second in OUA. The Gee-Gees caused opponents to commit 24.0 turnovers per game, which was first in OUA and sixth nationally. With 5.1 blocks per game the team led OUA and was second in U SPORTS. The team's 14.9 steals per game led OUA and was third nationally.
Offensively, Ottawa led OUA in team assists per game with 16.0 and was third in the conference with 72.6 points per game, ranking seventh in U SPORTS in both categories. Ottawa's team field goal percentage of 41.1 was second in OUA and fifth nationally.
