Bio

Sarah Besselink was appointed the Gee-Gees women's basketball team’s full-time Lead Assistant Coach ahead of the 2021-22 season. Besselink is no stranger to the Gee-Gees program as she starred for the team from 2013 to 2019, before returning to the program as an assistant coach over the course of the 2020-21 season.

During her career in Garnet and Grey, Besselink was named to the OUA All-Rookie team in 2013-14 and became a two-time OUA Second Team All-Star (2016-17 and 2018-19) amassing 850 total points in 92 regular season games played, placing her as the fourth all-time leading scorer in program history at the end of her career.

A product of Kingston, Ont., Besselink first graduated with a Bachelor of Human Kinetics in 2018, before returning to pursue a Bachelor of Education and play her final season of U SPORTS eligibility in 2018-19. After graduating from uOttawa’s Faculty of Education in 2020, Besselink worked as a teacher in Ottawa until accepting the Gee-Gees’ Lead Assistant Coach position. 

Besselink’s coaching experience includes serving as Head Coach of Ottawa’s U12 Ontario Summer Development Program team in 2015, as well as at the high school level as an Assistant Coach with Canada Topflight Academy’s Senior Women’s team since 2017.
