The Gee-Gees women's hockey team remain undefeated with a 4-0 record after defeating the McGill Martlets (5-2) and Carleton Ravens (3-1) this weekend.
This is the first time in the history of the program they have gone undefeated in regular season play in the month of October.
On Friday night, the Ottawa Gee-Gees never trailed at their away game in Montreal. Four goal-scorers showed up for the Gee-Gees to skate off with a 5-2 victory: Alèxe Clavelle (2), Katherine Birkby, Jade Todd, and Abygail Moloughney.
Ottawa hit the ice running with Clavelle scoring the first goal of the game through the five-hole. Then, late in the first period, Birkby tipped a pass from Moloughney into the net.
At the end of the second period, Todd kept the momentum going to break the tie, putting the Gee-Gees up 3-2.
Clavelle scored her second goal of the game at the beginning of the third. Not far behind, Moloughney capitalized on a breakaway rush to score on the goalie's blocker-side.
On Saturday night, the Gee-Gees returned to play on home ice against their capital-city rival, the Carleton Ravens.
The Gee-Gees came out strong on the attack in the first period, where Kylie Lalonde opened the scoring with assists by Birkby and Moloughney.
In the second period, Moloughney got a piece of the action after going to the far post for a power play goal, putting the Gee-Gees up 2-0.
Both teams, however, showed up hungry for the win as the Carleton Ravens "pushed back by denying the middle of the ice," said Assistant Coach, Greg Bowles.
To cap off the night, Alyssa Biesenthal scored her first career goal in the regular season by sneaking the puck into the back of the net behind the Ravens goaltender. "It was a long time coming—I hope there will be more to come," said Biesenthal.
In all, Gee-Gees goalie Aurélie Dubuc showed up to protect the house at both games this weekend to secure the team's third and fourth wins of the season.
After the game, Greg Bowles, Assistant Coach, said he is looking forward to "taking the momentum and continuing to build on Tuesday when [they] get back to work on the ice," Follow along next week as the Gee-Gees hit the road to both Concordia and Bishop's.
