NEWS: Women’s hockey schedule released, Gee-Gees open at home

The Gee-Gees women's hockey team won't have to wait long to avenge their playoff loss last season.

The RSEQ released the 2023-24 schedule in mid-June. It sees the Gee-Gees play a 25-game regular season against their five Quebec conference opponents.

Tickets for all Gee-Gees home games will be on sale later in the summer.

Ottawa's season and home opener pits them against the Montreal Carabins on Oct. 13. Montreal ended the Gee-Gees 2022-23 campaign in a hard fought, nailing-biting semifinal series, with a decisive game three going to overtime.

The Carleton Ravens will be at the Minto Sports Complex the very next week for the first of five confrontations between the crosstown rivals on the season. Ottawa took four-of-five meetings between the schools last season, including a memorable overtime triumph in the Alerts Cup.

The Alerts Cup is being held once again in 2023-24, with the annual matchup taking place on Nov. 19 at The Arena at TD Place, a 10,550-seat venue.

Ottawa is facing the defending conference champs and reigning national silver medallists from Concordia for the first time on Nov. 3, with the Stingers paying a visit to the Nation's Capital on Nov. 12 and Jan. 19. 

Carleton will be the opposition for the annual Mélisa Kingsley Memorial Game on Saturday, Nov. 4 at the Minto Sports Complex. Proceeds from the game will help fund a scholarship in Mélisa Kingsley's name at the University of Ottawa.

This season's playoffs will follow the usual format; the No. 1 versus No. 4 and No. 2 versus No. 3 in the opening round. The conference semifinals begin Feb. 22, while the RSEQ Final will run from Feb. 29 through Mar. 3.

Qualifying for the U SPORTS National Championship will also be much more straightforward compared to last season when the Université de Montréal hosted the championship. The two playoff finalists will earn a berth to Nationals, which will be hosted by the University of Saskatchewan at the state-of-the-art Merlis Belsher Place in Saskatoon, Sask., from Mar. 14-17.
