The Gee-Gees women's hockey team earned two dominant wins over the Carleton Ravens, first a 7-1 win on Thursday night on home ice before capturing the Alerts Cup with a 4-1 win on Saturday at TD Place.
Alyssa Biesenthal opened the scoring for the Gee-Gees in the first period of Thursday night's win. Defender Reece Mepham scored twice on the power play, while first-year forward Gillian Warren also scored her first two career goals.
Maëlle Laplante (1 goal, 3 assists) and Naomi Morin (4 assists) both finished with four points in the high-scoring outing.
On Saturday afternoon at TD Place, the Gee-Gees clinched their fourth consecutive win in the Alerts Cup. Biesenthal once again opened the scoring, this time just 52 seconds into the game. Ottawa extended their lead on an Arianne Gagnon goal at the 47 second mark of the second period.
The Ravens battled back late in the second period, cutting into the lead with just over six minutes left.
Still a one-goal game in the third period, the Ravens pulled their goalie for an extra attacker leading to a quick goal for Beatrice Bilodeau. Less than a minute later, the Gee-Gees closed off the win with a second goal by Biesenthal. Ottawa goalie Mireille Kingsley made 34 saves in the game to secure the win.
The win improves the Gee-Gees' record to 4-1 in the current era of the Colonel By Classic.
