NEWS: Four Gee-Gees named to OUA All-Star and All-Rookie Teams
Arianne Gagnon, Alyssa Biesenthal, and Maëlle Laplante were named OUA All-Stars and Naomi Morin was named to the OUA All-Rookie Team for 2024-25 as the conference announced its selections on Wednesday afternoon.
Gagnon was among the league-leaders in scoring throughout the season as the fourth-year Gee-Gee had a four-goal, two-assist game on October 12 which kicked off a ten-game point streak. Gagnon finished the season with 13 goals and 28 points, tying with teammate and fellow All-Star Alyssa Biesenthal for second in the conference in goals and ranking third in points.
Gagnon's 28 points is the fourth highest single season total in team history, and her thirteen goals also ranks fourth in program history. The Master's student in Criminology recorded three power play goals and three game-winners in 2024-25 and now has 25 goals and 24 assists in regular season play over her four seasons with uOttawa, moving her into the top eight in points in team history. This is her first All-Star award.
Biesenthal posted career highs in goals (13) and assists (12), finishing with 25 points which tied for fourth-best in OUA overall. The fourth-year forward from Georgetown, Ont. had an eight-game point streak which included a six-game goal-scoring streak from November 23 to Jan 11, with Ottawa picking up five wins during that time. Biesenthal provided a total of three game-winning goals in the regular season.
Biesenthal is a Human Kinetics student and played all 26 games for the Gee-Gees this season. She now ranks sixth in Gee-Gees history for goals scored in a career during regular season play, with a four-year total of 32 goals. 2024-25 was the second time she reached the 20-point plateau in her career. This is her first conference award.
For Maëlle Laplante this marks her second consecutive conference recognition as the blueliner was named to the RSEQ All-Rookie Team in 2023-2024. Laplante as another key part of the Gee-Gees offence as she contributed six goals and 14 assists to rank third on the Gee-Gees in points. Her points total ranked third in OUA among defence, and tied for thirteenth overall.
Laplante, an undergraduate Doctor of Pharmacy student (PharmD) from Lévis, Que., appeared in all 26 regular season games and more than doubled her points output from 2023-24, while maintaining her stellar defensive play.
On the All-Rookie team is forward Naomi Morin who tallied 5 goals and 14 assists to rank fourth on the team in points. Morin dressed in all 26 regular season games and had three multi-point games including a memorable four-assist performance against Carleton on November 28.
Ottawa finished the 2024-25 regular season with a record of 15-11, including two overtime wins and four overtime losses. With 47 points the team finished third in OUA East. The team's penalty kill percentage, 87.0, ranked first in OUA East and the team was second in the division with a goals against average of 2.10. Ottawa's 2.81 goals scored per game was also second in OUA East.
