The Nipissing Lakers scored three goals in 16 minutes in the first half to defeat the Ottawa Gee-Gees 3-1 Sunday afternoon at Gee-Gees Field in Ottawa.
The Gee-Gees saw the majority of the possession throughout the game and outshot the Lakers 29 to 9.
Forwards Delaney Rickert-Hall, Emma Lefebvre and midfielder Katherine Bearne gave opposing defenders fits all game long, but couldn't solve Lakers goalkeeper Mykaela Volpe.
Ottawa got their lone goal of the game in the 67th minute. Defender Kayla Da Costa-Pacheco let go a screamer from the edge of the 18-yard box that sailed straight into the top corner. Volpe got a piece of it, but couldn't keep it out of the back of the net.
Nipissing (4-3-1) scored two of their goals on the counter-attack in the first half, with forward Madison Logan proving clinical in front of goal on both occasions. The Lakers opened the scoring following a mistake by the Ottawa backline, and Kristen Farkas had an easy tap-in.
The Gee-Gees suffered their first loss of the season and now sit at 6-1-1, still good for first place in the OUA East division. Ottawa are travelling to Kingston to face the Queen's Gaels (5-1-0) on Saturday, September 22 and the RMC Paladins (0-5-1) on Sunday, September 23.
