The Gee-Gees women's soccer team had a record-matching offensive output against RMC on Friday evening at Matt Anthony Field, and then played a tight, competitive match against Ontario Tech, ultimately improving to 6-0-1 on the year.
"I'm still happy with our overall defensive play," said Gee-Gees head coach Steve Johnson when asked about the Ontario Tech match, a 3-1 decision for Ottawa. "We certainly bent at times, but didn't give them a lot of clear looks at goal. We created lots of opportunities. I'm happy with three goals, but if our conversation rate was a bit higher, we could have scored more."
The Gee-Gees had no trouble Friday evening, beating RMC 12-0 at Matt Anthony Field.
The match equaled the most lopsided result in program history. The Gee-Gees beat the Rams 12-0 on Sept. 14, 1997. Friday marked the sixth occasion in program history that uOttawa has broken double digits, and the first time since 2013.
Emma Lefebvre scored four times, while Cassandra Provost earned herself a first half hat trick. Soumaya Bouak notched a brace, with Angelina Gendreau, Hailey Walsh and Allana Oriente also scoring.
Ontario Tech provided Ottawa with much stiffer competition two days later. Following a Gendreau goal in the closing stages of the first half, the Ridgebacks evened things up from the penalty spot.
With the Gee-Gees controlling the majority of the possession, they broke through with Lefebvre tapping home a loose ball in the box. Sadie Sider-Echenberg got her second goal of the year moments later, giving Ottawa a 3-1 decision.
Lefebvre had five goals over the two matches, bringing her total to 11 on the year; by far the most in the conference.
"We're so happy to have her back this year," said Johnson of Lefebvre. "It was a late decision on her part to come back [for a fifth season]. She's got a work rate that's second-to-none. She really leads the line for us up front."
The Gee-Gees honoured their graduating seniors prior to Sunday's match; Lefebvre, Walsh, Katerine Delev, Julia Tardioli, Charlotte Gagnon-Lewis and Elise Lacoste.
Ottawa has two key matches coming up, as the undefeated Queen's Gaels are at Matt Anthony Field on Friday, Oct. 22. The Gee-Gees then travel to play York on Sunday, Oct. 24.
