An extra time winner from Angelina Gendreau gave the Gee-Gees women's soccer team a thrilling 2-1 victory over the number seven-ranked Queen's Gaels on Friday evening at Matt Anthony Field.
The Gee-Gees, ranked number three nationally, also defeated the number nine ranked York Lions on Sunday in Toronto.
"The level of the soccer was very, very high, it was a great game by both teams," said Gee-Gees head coach Steve Johnson after the Friday night match. "In the second half, we were pushing and down a goal, but we've been down goals before and have come back really well. I was happy with how the team responded."
Jenna Matsukubo of Queen's opened the scoring in the 60th minute in a very even and tight match.
Allana Oriente, in just her second appearance in Garnet and Grey, tied the match in the 83rd minute by slotting home a shot from close range. Oriente had entered the game 30 seconds prior to receive a pass in the penalty area from Sadie Sider-Echenberg, and calming finding the back of the net.
Then with the last kick of the game, Gendreau controlled a pass and unleashed a shot from 30 yards out. Gendreau had hit the post from similar range earlier in the evening, but wasn't denied this time as her shot hit the crossbar and bounced in, sending the capacity crowd at Matt Anthony Field into a frenzy.

"We're both top of the division, so it was really hard for us and we had to win to keep the undefeated season going," said Gendreau, who has four goals on the year. "It was a good game and I'm happy about the outcome."
Ottawa turned in a stellar defensive performance less than 48 hours later on the road, limiting York to just three shot attempts.
Emma Lefebvre scored her conference-leading 12th goal of the season late in the first half, and Cassandra Provost put the game away in the final ten minutes with a precise shot from outside the box.
Ottawa (8-0-1) clinched a playoff spot with their win over Queen's, and need just one point from their final regular season game to secure a home playoff game. That game sees them travel to take on the winless RMC Paladins on Friday, Oct. 29.
The Gee-Gees can still secure themselves first place in the entire conference, but would need Nipissing (8-0-0) to drop points in one of their final matches.
