AWARDS: Three Gee-Gees Honoured at U SPORTS level
The Gee-Gees women's soccer team had three players honoured at the U SPORTS level with Cassandra Provost being recognized as a U SPORTS All-Rookie team member and Emma Lefebvre and Trinity Esprit named to the All-Canadian teams.
Lefevbre was selected to the First Team of All-Canadians and was a finalist for the Chantal Navert Memorial Trophy as U SPORTS player of the year. This season was Lefebvre's third as an OUA All-Star but first as an All-Canadian. She set career highs in goals (12) and ranked third nationally in both goals (1.20) and points (1.50) per game. She finishes her five-year Gee-Gees career tied for second in program history with 36 goals in her regular season career.
Esprit was selected to the Second Team of All-Canadians following a tremendous second season in Garnet and Grey. Defensively, she continues to display her shut-down capabilities on the back line. With the ball, the sociology student from Toronto proved difficult for opponents to stop; she counted one goal and three assists in nine regular season games played.
Provost was named the OUA East Rookie of the Year and merited a place on the twelve-member U SPORTS All-Rookie Team. Her standout first season in Garnet and Grey included seven goals and two assists in the regular season. The accounting student from Acton Vale, Que., was tied for tenth nationally with her goal total of seven and was one of just 12 players across U SPORTS to average a point per game as she added two assists in her nine games played.
The two All-Canadian selections bring the Gee-Gees historical total to 35 and marks the third straight season that the Garnet and Grey had two players selected. The U SPORTS All-Rookie team was established in 2017; Provost is the third Gee-Gee to be selected in the four years, following Katerine Delev and Esprit.
