NEWS: Women’s volleyball schedule released, new opponents await Gee-Gees

A pair of new opponents await the Gee-Gees women's volleyball team for their final season in RSEQ action in 2023-24.

The RSEQ released the 2023-24 women's volleyball schedule in late May. It sees the Gee-Gees play an 18-game regular season circuit – plus four exhibition games – against Quebec competition starting on Oct. 15 on the road.

Ottawa will travel to Montreal to face the Carabins for a Sunday afternoon affair to open the season. 

The Gee-Gees will then enjoy a lengthy homestand, with six of their next seven games taking place at Montpetit Hall. Laval will be in town for the home opener on Saturday, Oct. 21, and the Gee-Gees first ever with the École de technologie supérieure Piranhas will take place Sunday, Oct. 29.

Université du Québec à Chicoutimi (UQAC) are the other newly minted school in the RSEQ top division this season, having been the class of RSEQ Division 2 for the past handful of years. The Gee-Gees will make the six-and-a-half-hour trek to Chicoutimi, Que., located some 200 km due north of Quebec City. 

Ottawa heads to UQAC for a back-to-back on Saturday, Dec. 2 and Sunday, Dec. 3, and then receive their northern Quebec foes on Friday, Jan. 19.

The regular season concludes at Montpetit Hall on Sunday, Feb. 18 against the defending conference champions from UQAM.

The playoffs will see the top four teams begin their quest for the conference title on Feb. 24, with the RSEQ Final running from Mar. 3-5. The U SPORTS National Championship takes place from Mar. 15-17 at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ont. 

Although Ottawa plays UQAC and ÉTS a combined four times throughout the season, these games will not count towards the regular season standings as the opponents aren't U SPORTS member schools. 

The Gee-Gees have confirmed they will be re-joining the OUA for the 2024-25 season.
