Bio

Boyd Young was one of the best defensive linemen in Gee-Gee football history, garnering three OQIFC J.P. Metras award nominations during his time. In 1984 he won the J.P. Metras award for top defensive lineman in Canada.

Playing from 1980-84, Boyd was named an All-Canadian in two consecutive seasons with the Gee-Gees in 1983 and 1984 and was the only All-Canadian for uOttawa those seasons. Young earned the OQIFC most outstanding lineman award as a rookie in 1980. That same year the Gee-Gees went 6-1 in the regular season, allowing opponents to score more than 11 points only once.  The defensive dominance continued into the post season and Ottawa captured the Atlantic Bowl with a 28-8 victory over Acadia.

Young was a four-time OQIFC conference all-star and earned the league’s most outstanding lineman honours in 1980, 1982, and 1984.

His play earned him tremendous consideration from CFL scouts and he was drafted in the fourth round of the 1983 draft by the Toronto Argonauts.
