National Top Ten Update: Men’s hockey and football move up, soccer stays no. 1
Five undefeated women's soccer teams remain across the country but the Gee-Gees continue to lead the U SPORTS Top Ten. Ottawa earned a 5-0 win this weekend at Ryerson and have two games remaining in the regular season schedule. With a goal differential of 38-4, Ottawa is in line to have home field advantage for the OUA playoffs should they complete the final weekend with two victories. The Gee-Gees host Toronto and Ryerson at Gee-Gees Field this weekend in anticipation of playoff scheduling.
The men's hockey team earned two wins on the road during the Thanksgiving weekend, moving up to the no. 3 position this week. That is the highest the Gee-Gees have ranked under Patrick Granmaître's tenure and highest since the 2003-2004 season when the Gee-Gees held no. 3 for two weeks during a 17-week streak of being ranked. With this week's ranking, the Gee-Gees have been ranked in the Top Ten for 22 straight polls. Ottawa hosts Western (0-2-0) and Guelph (2-1-0) this weekend.
Moving into the final week of regular season play in OUA the Gee-Gees are ranked no. 8. The Garnet and Grey are undefeated this season on home field, having won Friday's game against Windsor by a 54-26 score. Ottawa (5-2 overall) will finish the regular season at no. 1 ranked Western this Saturday, with multiple playoff scenarios still in play.
The Gee-Gees women's rugby team slipped one spot to no. 6 this week as other teams were in action across the country. Ottawa hosts an RSEQ semfinal on Saturday at 6 p.m., facing the Sherbrooke Vert et Or at Matt Anthony Field in what is likely the team's final home game before the U SPORTS National Championships begin at uOttawa, Wednesday Oct. 30.
