The Gee-Gees men's hockey team is back in the national top ten this week, re-joining the men's and women's basketball teams as the OUA playoffs are underway for all three sports.
The men's hockey team is ranked no. 10 this week following its first-round playoff win over Ontario Tech, which took three games to be settled but ended with an emphatic 5-0 win. The Gee-Gees now take on UQTR in round two, starting Wednesday in Trois-Rivières. The Gee-Gees will host Game Two on Friday night at 7:30, while game three will return to UQTR on Sunday, if necessary. Ottawa won the regular season series, picking up 4-2 and 5-1 victories before UQTR won the most recent matchup by a 4-1 score on Jan. 12.
The Gee-Gees men's basketball team finished the regular season with a pair of wins and remains ranked no. 5 in the nation this week. Ottawa finished the regular season with an 18-4 record, good for second overall in the conference however the playoff formatting puts the Central and West division winners ahead of the Gee-Gees in the seeding. As the no. 4 seed in the conference bracket, Ottawa receives a bye through the first round and will meet the winner of 12th place Guelph and fifth-place Ryerson on Saturday, February 22 at 8 p.m. at Montpetit Hall.
The Gee-Gees women's basketball team is ranked no. 4 in the nation this week and will also have a bye for round one of the OUA playoffs. The Garnet and Grey finished the regular season with an 18-4 record and placed second in the OUA playoff bracket as winners of the OUA East division. Ottawa awaits the winner of tenth seeded York. And seventh seeded Carleton, and will host a quarterfinal on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 6 p.m.
