UPDATE: Winter seasons paused through Jan. 27
UPDATE - Jan. 4, 2022
On Jan. 3, the Government of Ontario announced a temporary move to a modified Step Two of the province's Roadmap to Reopen. Following this announcement, indoor sport and recreational fitness facilities are closed for a minimum of 21 days commencing on Jan. 5.
This closure will impact all indoor Gee-Gees programs regardless of league of competition, thus extending the postponement of all events through Jan. 27 inclusively.
Updates on return to competition and possible scheduling changes will be communicated when made available from the OUA and RSEQ.
OTTAWA, ON – On December 17, 2021, Ontario University Athletics announced the suspension of the winter varsity sports seasons until January 24. This difficult decision was made in response to the recent increase of COVID-19 cases in the province.
While this is challenging news to receive, all of Gee-Gees Varsity Athletics remains hopeful for the rest of the season and looks forward to getting back to action as soon as possible.
"We understand the rapidly changing environment we find ourselves in. It is unfortunate for all involved to have our OUA seasons paused, but we will continue to provide the utmost support to our programs as we wait for the resumption of sport. This pandemic has required us all to be resilient, and I am confident we will rise to the challenge again this time." – Sue Hylland, Director of Varsity Athletics
At this time, the RSEQ will continue to follow current Québec public health guidelines.
