Bio

Sue Hylland was named Director of Sports Services in June of 2016. A well-respected leader in the Canadian Sports system, Hylland came to uOttawa following a 14-year span as President and CEO of the Canada Games Council.

While at the Canada Games Council, Hylland worked with provincial and territorial governments, national sport organizations, host committees, and other stakeholders to spearhead an evolution of the Games into a foundational aspect of Canada’s sport development system.

Hylland began her career with the Canadian Olympic Committee, serving in various roles in sport technical development and team coordination. She attended a total of eight Olympic Games and two Pan American Games as a staff member and served as the Team Lead for Canada’s delegations at the 1998 Winter Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan and the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia.

She also previously worked as the Executive Director at the Canadian Association of the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity from 2001-2002.

Originally from Chateauguay, Que., Hylland holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Bishop’s University and a Graduate Diploma in sport administration from Concordia University. She played varsity basketball at both institutions and was named to the All-Canadian team in 1981. Hylland also won a CCAA national championship with John Abbott College.

Hylland received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012 and was named to Canada’s Most Influential Women in Sport list for 2015.
