The largest class of inductees in Gee-Gees Football Hall of Fame history will be enshrined this year; three teams and two individuals have been selected for the honour. There are five decades of Gee-Gees history being celebrated; the 1960, 1970, and 1980 championship-winning teams will all go in to the Hall of Fame this year along with defensive standouts Steve Glenn and Sébastien Tétreault.
The Hall of Fame inductions will take place at the 2022 edition of the annual Touchdown Dinner, which is slated for April 23 at Lago (Dow's Lake). Tickets will go on sale shortly.
The 1960 team was the first of Matt Anthony's undefeated teams, playing to a 7-0 regular season record in the Ontario Intercollegiate Football Conference. The team then defeated Loyola for the Ontario-St. Lawrence Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championship, winning by a score of 49-13 in the title game. Over the course of the season, the Gee-Gees outscored opponents 259-78 before travelling to Halifax for the Atlantic Bowl.
In 1970, the Gee-Gees returned to the Atlantic Bowl and won, giving Ottawa its first appearance in the senior national championship game since 1902. In regular season play the team was 5-0-1 under head coach Bob O'Billovich. Then came a 32-15 victory over Bishop's to claim the Central Canada Intercollegiate Football Conference title, and a 24-11 win over UNB for the Atlantic Bowl.
The 1980 Gee-Gees followed in the footsteps of the 1970 squad, although their path to the College Bowl national final went through the Dunsmore Cup. In fact, it was the inaugural edition of the Dunsmore Cup as the championship game for the OQIFC and the Garnet and Grey edged Queen's 13-12 at Lansdowne Park. From there, the Gee-Gees triumphed 28-8 over Acadian in the Atlantic Bowl. The team was 6-1 in the regular season under head coach Cam Innes, with the league's best defence.
Steve Glenn was a workhorse for the Gee-Gees from 1990-1994. A linebacker and long-snapper, he led the team in tackles in both 1992 and 1994, leading the entire OQIFC in 1992. In 1991, he was second in the conference, and in 1994 he was third. A three-time OQIFC All-Star, Glenn amassed 290 career tackles, second highest in program history among years with tackling stats. The team MVP in 1992, Glenn went on to have a ten-year career in the CFL and is now a firefighter with the City of Ottawa and an owner and coach at Elite Longsnapping.
Sébastien Tétreault was a major talent on the defensive line from 2006-2010. He was a three-time All-Canadian, named for the first time in his sophomore season. He led the nationally number two-ranked 2010 team with seven sacks, and is tied for third in team history with 17 sacks in his career. During Tétreault's Gee-Gees career the team played in three Yates Cups, winning in 2006. Following his graduation, Tétreault became a coach and now heads the CEGEP Outaouais squad. He was also a Junior National Team Coach in 2016 and 2018, when Canada won the World Championship.
