NEWS: OUA announces 2020 football schedule, Gee-Gees kick off season Aug. 30 in Windsor
Despite being amidst the thick of winter, the attention of football fans turned to the fall on Wednesday as the OUA released the 2020 football schedule.
The Gee-Gees will kick off their season on Aug. 30 with a trip to Windsor to take on the Lancers. Next up, the team will get another early season bye as they sit out week two action to prepare for their home opener.
The defending Yates Cup champions McMaster will travel to Ottawa for a home opener matchup with the Gee-Gees on Sept. 12. The game will mark the third time Ottawa and McMaster have met to commence the season at Gee-Gees Field in recent years.
Up next comes a visit from York on Sept. 19 as the Gee-Gees look to continue their recent success against the Lions.
The Gee-Gees will then head out on the road to Waterloo for a meeting with the Laurier Golden Hawks on Sept. 26 in a rematch of a 25-22 thriller win for the Gee-Gees in week four last season.
On the back half of the schedule, the Gee-Gees have the luxury of not leaving Eastern Ontario for the final four weeks of the regular season.
October kicks off with a bang in the 52nd Panda Game at TD Place where the Gee-Gees will look to extend their winning streak to three against their archrivals.
A visit from the Guelph Gryphons under Friday night lights on Oct. 9 will once again be a game to watch as the push for playoffs intensifies.
On the other side of Thanksgiving, the Gee-Gees will make the short trip to Kingston on Oct. 17 to take on the Queen's Gaels, renewing one of the oldest football feuds in the nation.
To close the regular season, the Western Mustangs will make the trip to Ottawa in a battle between two annual OUA powers on Oct. 24.
