NEWS: Three Gee-Gees selected to 2021 U SPORTS East-West Bowl
Michael Pezzuto, James du Manoir, and Chris Ciguineau, were selected to represent the East team.
On Wednesday, a trio of Gee-Gees were named to the 2021 U SPORTS East-West Bowl rosters. The players selected are defensive lineman Michael Pezzuto, offensive lineman James du Manoir, and defensive back Chris Ciguineau.
Pezzuto emerged with an strong campaign in 2019, in his first season as a starter at defensive end. Solidifying his role on the defensive line the season prior, he tallied 18.5 total tackles, three sacks, 6.5 tackles for loss, and one forced fumble in seven regular season games played in 2019. From Montreal, Que., Pezzuto joined the Gee-Gees in 2017 after playing in CEGEP with Collège Ahuntsic. Pezzuto saw limited game action in his first season with the team, suiting up in only three contests. In 2018, he broke into the lineup and tallied 9 total tackles, 1.5 sacks, 2.5 tackles for loss, one fumble recovery, and an interception.
du Manoir was a stalwart on the Ottawa offensive line in 2019, starting all nine regular season and playoff games at left tackle for the Gee-Gees. From Cobourg, Ont., du Manoir joined the Gee-Gees in 2018 after transferring from Queen's, quickly becoming a consistent rotational lineman in his first season with the team. Over the course of his two seasons, du Manior has shown strong versatility and durability playing at both tackle and guard in each of the Gee-Gees' games in the 2018 and 2019 season.
Ciguineau has a unique path during his time with the Garnet and Grey. Another Montreal and Collège Ahuntsic product, Ciguineau joined the Gee-Gees as a receiver in 2017. In 2019, Ciguineau switched sides of the ball to defensive back in 2019, presenting himself a greater opportunity for playing time. Adapting quickly, Ciguineau suited up in five regular season games and one playoff game at cornerback, tallying three solo tackles on the season.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this year's East-West Bowl game will not be taking place, rather the honour serves as a first look at 2022 CFL Draft eligible talent from across the nation.
