RECAP: Gee-Gees Bounce Back in Second Game of Home and Home Against Ravens

The Gee-Gees were able to bounce back Saturday Night at the Minto Sports Complex, winning 5-2, after a rough start to the weekend. The Garnet and Grey lost 6-1 in the first leg of a home and home against the Carleton Ravens.

The Gee-Gees started their weekend travelling to the Ice House Friday. The game did not start as planned for the Garnet and Grey, giving up four goals in the first period. This included two powerplay goals. The Gee-Gees were able to stop the bleeding in the second, only allowing one goal to Cole Carter. Anand Oberoi made his first appearance for the program, coming in relief for Tristan Bérubé and shutting the door – he stopped all 18 shots he faced. The Gee-Gees pulled one back midway through the third thanks to a Branden Makara shot, his third of the season. Carleton added the empty-netter to finish the game 6-1.

Looking for a bounce-back the Gee-Gees prepared for a Saturday night meeting with the Ravens. The Ravens opened the scoring on the powerplay but the Gee-Gees would come roaring back. On an extended five-on-three powerplay, Bradley Chenier received a backdoor pass from Jean-Robin Mantha to tie things up. After an extended penalty kill, Nicolas Mattinen snuck down the half-wall to rip it into the top corner to end the second period with the teams tied at two. 

The Gee-Gees wasted no time in the third coming out firing. After Mathieu Desgagnés was robbed on the doorstep, Charles-Antoine Roy tipped home his second of the season just over a minute into the final frame. The Gee-Gees were bushed but didn't break thanks to some acrobatic goalkeeping from Bérubé on his way to his third win of the season. The Garnet and Grey would add two more in the period, including Mantha who fired home a point shot for his first goal of the season. Mantha's goal was his first since January 21, 2018. 

"Everything was better tonight," said Pat Grandmaître, Gee-Gees head coach. "From goaltending, to special teams, to effort defensively and offensively so."

The Gee-Gees are back in action Friday, Nov. 26 when they travel to Montreal to take on the McGill Redbirds at 7 p.m. before they return home for McGill's first trip to the Minto Sports Complex on Sunday, Nov. 28 at 3 p.m.
