The Gee-Gees were on the road for a pair of crucial matchups, taking on the Concordia Stingers and the #3 UQTR Patriotes. Starting the weekend with a 3-2 win over Concordia, but falling 2-0 to UQTR the following night, Ottawa falls to third in the OUA East, only two points behind the conference leader, McGill.
Saturday night's game opened with a scoreless first period. The Gee-Gees struck first halfway through the second period with a goal from Marc-Antoine Seguin. Concordia buried one a minute later.
With 1-1 on the scoreboard to start the third period, Luka Verreault was next to find the net, logging a powerplay goal. Mathieu Desgagnes followed up twenty seconds later to build a two-goal lead for the Gee-Gees heading into the final ten minutes of play.
A powerplay goal went in favour of Concordia, but that was as close as the Stingers would get. As the final buzzer went, the Gee-Gees had the 3-2 win.
Earlier in the season, the Gee-Gees defeated the Patriotes with an impressive 5-1 showing.
This time, the game went entirely in UQTR's favour. The Gee-Gees were dealt 14 penalty minutes while the Patriotes went the entire game without a whistle against them.
While Ottawa successfully killed off each penalty, UQTR managed to score early in the second period at even strength. As the clocked winded down at the end of the third period, the Gee-Gees were desperate to even up the score.
UQTR hit the empty net with 25 seconds left on the board, putting away the game at 2-0.
The Gee-Gees have one final game left on the regular season schedule, the Colonel By Classic on Feb. 8. Puck-drop for the rivalry matchup against the Carleton Ravens is at 7 p.m. at TD Place Arena. Tickets for the season finale are available at https://teams.geegees.ca/tickets .
