The Gee-Gees men's hockey team took their first road trip of the season, heading to Ontario Tech for a Saturday night meeting before taking on the York Lions on Sunday afternoon.
Saturday's meeting was a rematch of Ottawa's home opener where they defeated Ontario Tech 5-4 to start the season. This time, it was a lopsided battle in favour of the Ridgebacks.
Despite the Gee-Gees getting the first say with a goal from Brad Chenier, the rest of the game was all in favour of the Ridgebacks. Scoring twice on powerplay opportunities, the Ridgebacks were able to put together four goals and get the revenge win.
York struck first in Sunday's matchup, finding the net in less than a minute of action. While impressive, it didn't matter much. The Gee-Gees took full control.
Marc-Antoine Seguin responded to the Lions' opening goal moments later, and another score from Andrew Belchamber gave the Gee-Gees a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission.
The Gee-Gees didn't slow down, Belchamber found a shorthanded goal and Mathieu Desgagnes added one on the powerplay. Heading into the final 20 minutes, Ottawa had built a 4-1 advantage.
Belchamber found his third of the game early in the final period of play, and Elliot Dutil snagged his first as a Gee-Gee to close out the game at 6-1.
With six points in four games, Belchamber has made an immediate impact on the OUA. With five goals and an assist, Belchamber ties for second in points in the OUA early in the season.
The Gee-Gees are back at home on Friday night, hosting the McGill Redbirds for a 7 p.m. puckdrop. The next day, the squad will be at UQTR to take on the Patriotes, the team that ended their 2023-24 playoff run.
