RECAP : Rowing on the Rideau
It was a perfect day for racing on Sunday as the Gee-Gees took part in the Head of the Rideau Regatta on the Rideau River. uOttawa raced against crews from Trent, McGill, Carleton, RMC, Université de Montreal, Dawson College, and Clarkson University. In all, the Gee-Gees competed in 16 races, and had two first place finishes.
Owen Falkenham, a Mechanical Engineering student from Halifax, N.S., won the men's varsity lightweight singles, besting rowers from Carleton and Montreal. The men's varsity fours also fared well; the team took second place ahead of Carleton and Trent, holding off Carleton at the finish line in a good race.
The other first place finish on the day came in the women's open fours category, with Susan Price's crew of Laura Guy, Emma Dressler, Sarah De Marinis and Mary-Beth Foley topping the University of Montreal by thirty seconds.
The rowing team rolls into the Head of the Trent competition this coming weekend, and then will have some rest ahead of the OUA Championships on Oct. 25-26
