Kanaan holds a Bachelor of Laws degree (2020) and a Doctor of Law (JD, 2021) from uOttawa.

Recipient of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (CRSH/SSRH) grant for research that has a positive impact on lives, communities and future generations.

Recipient of the Special Merit Scholarship from the Faculty of Law — selected by faculty professors for excellence, leadership and community commitment.

Recipient of the Fellowship of the International Center for Criminology for research on Social Profiling (individuals experiencing homelessness).

Recipient of the Jacques Gaudreau scholarship for graduate studies — one-time scholarship received for research in human rights.

Recipient of the Osgoode Society for Canadian Legal History Prize given to the 15 best graduate students of a Faculty of Law (Juris Doctor).

First prize for excellence in the editorial competition of the law journal Le Flagrant Délit (article on homelessness and the interpretation of socio-economic rights under the Canadian Charter).

First prize for excellence in the Norton Rose Fulbright Moot Court Competition (Representative of the Charter Committee on poverty issue).

Academic presenter at: the Séminiaire, Observatoire des profilages, presenting on the topic of La parole aux personnes profilées (March 2022) to discuss research with marginalized people. She did an online presentation for the Centre integré de santé et de services sociaux de l’Outaouais speaking on the topic of La responsabilité civile en contexte de soins ob-gyn : un état de lieux (May 2021) for better healthcare practices for women.
