Gee-Gees track season in full swing, both teams in Top 10
Gee-Gees track and field competed in their first events of 2019 over the weekend, as they sent representatives to the Vert et Or Invitational hosted at Université de Sherbrooke.
Gee-Gees track and field competed in their first events of 2019 over the weekend, as they sent representatives to the Vert et Or Invitational hosted at Université de Sherbrooke. Going into this weekend, both the women's and men's team were ranked ninth in their respective U SPORTS Top 10s based on their excellent results so far this season.
At the Vert et Or Invitational, there were many standout performances by Gee-Gees. Highlighting the weekends performances was a first place finish by Caroline Poirier in the women's pole vaulting competition as she cleared a height of 3.60m, which sets a new Gee-Gees women's record. The women's 4x400m relay team of Sydney Smith, Rebecca Brennan, Jennifer Dumoulin, and Amanda Hummel also placed first with a time of 4:34.24.
The men's 4x400 m relay team of Ken Lorbetskie, Jesse Fortier, Robert Mitchell, and Adrian Livingston ran to a second place finish with a time of 3:47.66. Also recording a second place finish was Rebecca Brennan in the women's 3000m race, as she clocked in at a time of 10:22.76.
The Gee-Gees teams also recorded a number of third place results, including Emily Sprague in the women's 60m hurdles (9.61 seconds), Keili Shepherd in the women's 1500m (4:52.21 and new Gee-Gees women's record), Annabella Gagne in women's pole vault (3.35m), and Tyler DaCosta in men's 60m hurdles (9.08 seconds).
Other top five finishes for the Gee-Gees were:
- Women's 4x200m – Stephanie Lapolice, Caroline Poirier, Sydney Smith, Annabella Gagne - 4th place (1:54.43)
- Men's 1000m – Robert Mitchell – 4th place – 2:42.72
- Men's 4x200m – Conor Ross, Jesse Fortier, Kyle Sprague, Tyler Dacosta - 4th place- 1:37.25
- Men's 4x200m – Adrian Livingston, Tyrece Johnson, Femi Ajayi, Thibault Breier – 5th place – 1:37.47
- Men's Long jump – Kyle Sprague – 5th place – 6.21m
