RECAP: Gee-Gees runners shine at OUA Championships in Toronto
Leading the way for the Gee-Gees was Stephen Evans who won gold medals in the 1000m final (2:26.44) and the 600m final (1:19.68).
Members of the Gee-Gees track and field team competed in the 2019 OUA Championships over the weekend hosted by the York Lions at the Toronto Track & Field Centre.
By the end of the two-day meet, the Gee-Gees men ended up in seventh place overall with 26 total points, while the women's team finished in sixth place with 37 points.
Leading the way for the Gee-Gees was Stephen Evans who won gold medals in the 1000m final (2:26.44) and the 600m final (1:19.68). Evans, a fourth-year Political Science student from Ottawa, has had a spectacular season and overall career up to date. Evans will look to add to his medal collection that includes a U SPORTS silver medal from last years' National Championships.
Also collecting a medal for the Gee-Gees was the 4x800m relay team of Keili Shepherd, Sophia Skorenky, Marie-Eve Dahms, and Maeliss Trapeau, who ran to a third place finish in a time of 9:04.50.
The Gee-Gees had fourth place finishes by Caroline Poirier in the women's pole vault (3.52m), Kyle Sprague in men's triple jump (13.46m), and the women's 4x400m relay team of Mary Ollier, Skorenky, Trapeau, and Sydney Smith, who finished in 3:49.62.
Rounding out the top five finishes for the Gee-Gees over the weekend was Trapeau in the women's 100m final (2:54.25), Madison Clarke in the women's 600m final (1:31.38), and the women's 4x200m relay team of Alyiah Broomfield, Pernille Lund, Skorenky, and Smith who finished in (1:43.47).
The Gee-Gees will now turn their focus to the U SPORTS National Championships being hosted by the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg from March 6-8.
