RECAP: Track and Field season begins at SLU Holiday Relays
It was the first travel meet of the year for the track and field team, which also hosted an intra-squad meet on November 23.
Thirteen Gee-Gees represented the University of Ottawa at the Saints Holiday Relays at St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY this Saturday. It was the first travel meet of the year for the track and field team, which also hosted an intra-squad meet on November 23.
Sydney Smith had a big day at St. Lawrence, breaking a pair of meet records. Smith won the 600m and broke the meet record with a time of 1:36.62, with Mary Ollier, the previous record holder, coming in second at 1:37.08 while representing the Ottawa Lions. Smith, a fourth-year Biology student, is currently ranked second in U SPORTS in the 600m.
The women's 4x400 relay squad broke the meet record which was from the 2013 Gee-Gees team. Lucy Hempstead, Brooklyn McCormick, Sydney Smith and Marie-Eve Dahms teamed up for a time of 4:05.73.
Gee-Gees won both the men's and women's mile events, with Holly Hicks (5:15.96) and Robbie Mitchell (4:31.86) topping their respective fields. Fourth-year Tyler Dacosta was first in the 60m hurdles (8.85), and first-year Luke Jones won the 1000m (2:37.43).
In addition to the thirteen student-athletes in Garnet and Grey on Saturday, several past Gee-Gees team members were representing the Ottawa Lions at the event. Full results from Holiday Relays are available here.
