Angela Ribarich led three Gee-Gees scoring in double figures on afternoon. Ribarich, playing in her hometown, posted a regular season career-high 24 points and 10 rebounds. Sarah Besselink scored 16 points, while Brigitte Lefebvre-Okankwu tallied 13.
As a team, the Gee-Gees shot a red-hot 60.7 per cent from the field, further establishing their lead atop the nation in field goal percentage (46.4).
The Gee-Gees began to pull away in the third quarter, after a relatively close first half. Ottawa led 48-36 at half, a margin they pushed to a game-high 21 points late in the third. The Varsity Blues mounted a small comeback in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Gee-Gees 19-17 in the final frame. The Gee-Gee defence was ultimately too stiff to overcome as Ottawa secured their first win of the second half of the season.
Maia Timmons provided high-volume scoring off the bench for the Gee-Gees. The second-year guard tallied seven points off of the bench, only registering four minutes on the floor.
Ottawa will take on Ryerson on Sunday afternoon at the Mattamy Athletic Centre. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. from Coca-Cola Court in downtown Toronto, the game will be streamed live on OUA.tv
