WHAT TO WATCH FOR:
- Winners of their last seven games, the Gee-Gees have rolled through the majority of their competition as of late. Heading into a weekend at home, the team will get their first big test of the new semester against #7 Queen's. Losing a heartbreaker to the Gaels in November, the Gee-Gees will look to respond with a resounding performance – this time on their home court.
- Turning in a weekend performance that earned her Gee-Gees Athlete of the Week honours, third-year forward Brigitte Lefebvre-Okankwu will be key in the team's matchup against the Gaels. Battling forwards Julia Chadwick and Sophie de Goede, Lefebvre-Okankwu and the Ottawa forwards will be busy on the defensive end, but will look to continue rolling offensively.
- First-year guard Natsuki Szczokin has been a very strong addition to the Gee-Gees this season, averaging seven points per game, the Barrie, Ont. product has seen some outstanding performances in her young career. Szczokin's highest scoring outing thus far was 18 points against Queen's in their last matchup. Last weekend, Szczokin scored 14 points against Laurentian, but was held scoreless against Nipissing. It will be key to watch if the budding star turns in another landmark performance on Friday and if she can push that momentum to OUA All-Rookie team consideration.
- As the newest team in the OUA, Ontario Tech has yet to earn a win in their inaugural season, last week, they came close to earning their first victory in an overtime loss to Algoma. With a difficult test against #4 Carleton on Friday and #3 Ottawa on Saturday, the Ridgebacks will have to play their best basketball of their young history this weekend to earn their first win.
