OTTAWA PLAYERS TO WATCH
As a First Team OUA All-Star last year, Gee-Gees point guard Brooklynn McAlear-Fanus has established herself as one of the nation's top talents over the last two seasons. An all-around threat on the court, McAlear-Fanus utilizes outstanding speed to break down defences, score at will, and set up her teammates. McAlear-Fanus reached rarified territory when posting a triple-double in January, a feat emblematic of the kind of playmaking ability she possesses.
Fifth-year forward Katherine Follis has been a key addition to the Gee-Gees this season. Transferring from Ryerson to Ottawa, Follis has posted career highs across the board. Leading the OUA and the nation in field goal percentage at 60.9%, Follis has disrupted opposing offences across the OUA. In Ottawa's 66-49 over Carleton in December, Follis posted 13 points, six rebounds, and two assists against the Ravens.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR:
Ottawa won the last matchup between the teams by a 66-49 score, pulling away in the third quarter with stifling defence. To replicate that result Gee-Gees will need to pay close attention to Carleton's outside shooters as the Ravens rank second in the OUA in percentage from beyond the arc (32.2 per cent) but were held to 2-of-14 on long distance shooting in the December matchup. Ottawa also cleaned up the glass in December, outrebounding the Ravens 41-31. Look for the Gee-Gees to be aggressive in the paint as they got to the line 20 times in the last matchup, counting 14 points from the stripe.
