WEEKEND RECAP: Gee-Gees sweep Ontario Tech with dominant road weekend
The Gee-Gees women's basketball team travelled to Oshawa for a weekend double-header against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks. Walking away with two dominant wins, Ottawa improved their OUA record to 4-0 on the early season.
On Friday, the Gee-Gees downed the Ridgebacks by a final tally of 101-52, with six players finishing scoring in double-figures. Overall, the Gee-Gees shot 51.2 per cent from the field and forced 21 turnovers, capitalizing for 25 points.
Brigitte Lefebvre-Okankwu led the way with 17 points and five rebounds on the night. While Anne Carr (16 pts. / 7 reb.), Natsuki Szczokin (14 pts. / 5 ast.), Emily Payne (14 pts. / 5 reb.), Oksana Gouchie-Provencher (10 pts. / 10 reb.), and Melina De Iulio (10 pts. / 7 reb.) were other scorers in double-figures.
On Saturday, Ottawa powered to a 81-52 win to close out the weekend. In the win, Lefebvre-Okankwu turned in a career performance finishing with 32 points and 14 rebounds in 34 minutes of action.
In all, the Gee-Gees were on fire shooting from beyond the arc, hitting on an even 40 per cent for 10 threes overall. Inside the paint, the Gee-Gees were also dominant, scoring 40 of their points inside.
Also logging career-high performances were Szczokin, who had 24 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists, as well as De Iulio, who had 13 points and six rebounds.
Up next, the Gee-Gees are on a bye week as they prepare to travel to Toronto for two matchups with the Varsity Blues on Nov. 26 and 27.
