RECAP: #8 Gee-Gees power to big road win over Thunderwolves
The U SPORTS eighth-ranked Gee-Gees women's basketball team travelled to Thunder Bay, Ont. for a Friday night matchup with the Lakehead Thunderwolves. In a lopsided affair, the Gee-Gees improved their record on the season to 5-0 with a 81-31 win.
In an all-out dominant win, Ottawa was equally effective on both ends of the floor building a big lead in the early stages of the game and never looking back.
The Gee-Gees shot 43.7 per cent on the night from the floor and outrebounded Lakehead 44-26 en route to a dominant 50-10 outscoring of their hosts in the paint.
12 players logged time on the floor for the Gee-Gees, with four scoring in double-figures. Brigitte Lefebvre-Okankwu led the way with a 15-point, 11-rebound double-double in 21 minutes of action. Emily Payne also registered a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds off the bench for Ottawa. Alana Renon and Natsuki Szczokin each contributed 14 and 11 points respectively in the win, with Szczokin tallying an eye-popping seven steals on the night.
The Gee-Gees will now return home for a three-game stand, first matching up with the Western Mustangs and Windsor Lancers next Friday and Saturday night.
