Preseason is in full swing for the Gee-Gees women's hockey team as they prepare for the 20th season in program history.
"We know we're going to have a young group this year, we want to see some progression in our tactical style of play," said head coach Yanick Evola. "It will be interesting to see how the team can develop during these five exhibition games."
In their first taste of preseason play last week, the Gee-Gees took down cross-town rival Carleton by a score of 4-1, with rookie Ariane Aubin notching two goals and two assists.
This weekend the Gee-Gees will head north for a pair of games at Nipissing and Laurentian.
On October 28, the team travels south of the border to take on the Vermont Catamounts. In their final exhibition game of the year, the Gee-Gees will host the Bishop's Gaitors on October 4. The Sherbrooke-based team currently plays in the American Collegiate Hockey Association.
With 12 new players joining the returning core, the slate of exhibition games presents an opportunity to gain experience and confidence ahead of the season opener.
"It's a good opportunity for them to follow the leadership group, but at the end of the day they can play and some of them shined in the first game," Evola explained.
Tickets for the preseason game against Bishop's and the home opener against Montreal on October 27 are available now at tickets.geegees.ca.
