The Gee-Gees women's hockey team won their second consecutive game on Friday night, defeating the nationally ranked Montreal Carabins by a score of 2-1.
NOVEMBER 8 vs. MONTREAL
The Montreal Carabins jumped out to an early lead just three minutes into the contest. A low point shot found its way past a sea of bodies and slipped past goaltender Jennifer Walker.
On their second power play opportunity of the period, the Gee-Gees answered back. Marimée Godbout-Parent deflected a point shot from Christine Deaudelin to knot the contest at one.
A fast-paced second period saw both teams exchanging plenty of chances both goaltenders at both ends of the rink.
Early in the third period, Sophie Gareau potted her second goal of the season to push her team ahead. A quick pass from Deaudelin allowed Gareau to easily capitalize from the side of the goal.
From that point onwards, the Gee-Gees clamped down defensively. The group collectively blocked 12 shots in the final frame, while Walker stopped 10 shots in the period and 31 overall on the night.
Montreal pulled their goaltender in the final minute of the period, but the high-pressure attack wasn't enough as the Gee-Gees pulled off the upset.
