The Gee-Gees women's hockey team split their games over the weekend. First, coming from behind to defeat the McGill Martlets in overtime, then falling to the Carabins in Montreal.
NOVEMBER 22 vs. McGILL
It took just four minutes for Mélodie Bouchard to open the scoring for the Gee-Gees, taking a pass from Katherine Birkby then wiring it past the goaltender.
McGill answered back with a tally late in the first period on the power play, then added two more in the second period to take a two-goal lead into the third period.
Time was starting to run short for the Gee-Gees as they continue to battle in hopes of tying the game. Already on a five-on-three power play and with a delayed penalty against McGill, Bouchard slid the puck through the five-hole to pull the Gee-Gees within one goal.
Ottawa was given another power play opportunity in the final minutes of regulation following a check to the head penalty against McGill.
Alive Fillion scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season on the power play, capitalizing on a scramble in the crease in the dying seconds of regulation.
Midway through the first overtime, Marimée Godbout-Parent raced into the offensive zone on a partial breakaway, and made no mistake as she buried her shot to win the contest for the Garnet and Grey.
NOVEMBER 24 at MONTREAL
On Sunday in Montreal, it was the host Carabins that had the hot start. They converted on the power play just three minutes into the game, and added another marker three minutes later for a commanding two-goal lead.
Following the initial wave of attacks, the Gee-Gees settled in and were able to contain the Carabins and in turn generate a few chances of their own.
After a scoreless second period, the Carabins broke through with another power play goal midway through the third period.
Their momentum was short lived however, as Fillion scored her second of the weekend just four minutes later to cut the deficit to two.
The Garnet and Grey rallied in hopes of completing their second two-goal comeback of the weekend, but were stymied by the Carabins defence and ran out of time.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING
Following the win against McGill
"I'm glad we were able to come away with the win tonight. I'm proud of our girls, the way they were resilient late in the game to force overtime. On the power play, we definitely had a lot of opportunities, but we just couldn't capitalize. We made adjustments as the game progressed and we ultimately found a way." — Chelsea Grills, interim head coach
Following the loss against Montreal
"We had a slow start and it cost us two goals, but we got back on track in the second and third periods. We had a good record; we had a lot of opportunities. We managed to score a goal to close the gap, but there was not enough time at that point." — Christine Deaudelin, third-year defenceman
