The Gee-Gees women's hockey team played their best 60 minutes of the season on Friday night, earning a 4-0 win over Carleton during the Mélisa Kingsley Memorial Game. On Sunday afternoon, the Gee-Gees won their fifth consecutive game in spectacular fashion: defeating the Concordia Stinger, the top ranked team in the nation, by a score of 2-1.
With the victories, the Gee-Gees have now clinched a berth in the RSEQ Playoffs.
JANUARY 31 vs. CARLETON
The Gee-Gees had an added jump in their step to open the contest. The game played out at a breakneck pace with only a pair of whistles in the first eight minutes, and the Ravens hemmed in their own zone for lengthy stretches.
Meagan McGaughey opened the scoring late in the first period, tapping in a loose puck during a scrum in the crease.
Jade Todd's second of the season extended the lead midway through the second period, with the wrister just squeaking by the Carleton goaltender.
Aurélie Dubuc and the penalty killers came up huge later in the period, snuffing out all of Carleton's chances on a key five-on-three power play.
Ottawa answered with a power play goal of their own to take a three-goal lead, with captain Mélina Roy finding the back of the net.
Christine Deaudelin's long range shot from her own zone on an empty net iced the game with four minutes remaining on the clock.
FEBRUARY 2 vs. CONCORDIA
The Gee-Gees' strong play carried over into Sunday. While Concordia controlled possession and pace, Ottawa was solid defensively and generated a number of chances despite limited shots reaching the net.
Concordia was first to break through, with a shot squeaking past Dubuc midway through the first period.
In the second period, the Gee-Gees had numerous chances to tie up the contest, including three power plays, but still trailed by a goal.
They finally broke through in the third period, with Meagan McGaughey deflecting a Mélodie Bouchard point shot four minutes into the frame to tie the game.
Three minutes later, Taylor McGaughey raced up the ice and quickly wired a wrister past the goaltender to give the Gee-Gees the lead.
Concordia pressured aggressively in hopes of tying the game, but Dubuc was flawless in goal, making a series of saves, including one in the final seconds, to clinch the victory.

- The Gee-Gees were a perfect 1-for-1 on the power play on Friday night, with Roy's first of the season finding the back of the net.
WHAT THEY'RE SAYING
"Mélisa Kingsley, just in herself, was an unbelievable young lady. We had so many players on our team that played with her, both in her minor hockey career but also played with her here at uOttawa. I don't think anyone missed the factor that our tempo and energy were unbelievable tonight. It's a game that those girls in the room are very proud of, but Mélisa Kingsley somewhere is very proud of as well." — Greg Bowles, assistant coach, following the win on Friday night.
