NEWS: RSEQ Honours for Four Gee-Gees
Christine Deaudelin led the way for Ottawa with a place on the First All-Star team
The Gee-Gees women's hockey team had four members recognized by the RSEQ Conference for the 2019-2020 season. Christine Deaudelin led the way for Ottawa with a place on the First All-Star team, with Mélodie Bouchard becoming a four-time all-star with her place on the Second Team. First-year goaltender Aurélie Dubuc was voted onto the Second All-Star team in addition to the All-Rookie Team, where she was joined by Alice Fillion.
Christine Deaudelin led all RSEQ defencemen with five goals in the regular season and was second among defence-players in points with 17, which tied her for seventh in the league overall. It was a huge increase over last year when Deaudelin logged six assists while playing solid defence, as well as her rookie campaign when she scored three goals and six assists and also earned a place on the Second All-Star team. Deaudelin, a third-year criminology major from Beloeil, Que., continued to provide excellent defensive play this season while stepping up to power the Gee-Gees to a 51-goal season, the highest team total since 2016-17.
Mélodie Bouchard was also a crucial piece of the Gee-Gees offence again this season, leading the team with 18 points (5 goals, 13 assists). Her point total ranked tied for fourth in the conference this year, and brings her career total to 102 (37 goals, 65 assists in 93 games). The fifth-year forward from Sept-Îles, Que., finishes her Gee-Gees career as a four-time conference all-star and the team's all-time leader in points. She is the third player in program history to be named a four-time all-star, joining Fannie Desforges and Kim Kerr.
Aurélie Dubuc recorded nine wins in her rookie season, setting a new program record for first-year Gee-Gees goaltenders. She backstopped the Garnet and Grey to five straight victories in January and February, establishing a Gee-Gees record for all goaltenders. Overall, Dubuc posted a .926 save percentage in the regular season which ranked third in the conference and is fifth-best in Gee-Gees team history. The biopharmaceutical sciences student from Trois-Rivières, Que., was named to the All-Rookie team and the Second All-Star team.
Alice Fillion notched 12 points in her rookie campaign, leading the Gee-Gees in goals with 8. That ranked fourth in the conference this season among all goal-scorers and was tops among rookies. A social sciences student from Québec City, Fillion scored a hat-trick on November 3 against Carleton and had two other multi-point games. She is a member of the All-Rookie Team.
The Gee-Gees finished the 2019-2020 season with an 11-7-2 record, matching the third-highest win total in team history.
