The Gee-Gees were able to improve to a 2-2 record after the second weekend of RSEQ action. Christine Deaudelin's hat trick was enough for the Garnet and Grey to beat newcomers Bishop's University after falling to McGill on Friday evening.
The weekend started with a trip to Montreal to face off against the McGill Martlets for the first time this season. The Martlets, coming off a perfect start continued that against the Gee-Gees emerging 4-1 victors. The Martlets jumped out to an early one-goal lead off a Christiana Colizza shot, 45 seconds into the first period. They extended their lead to three after the second period. While the Gee-Gees had their chances, including an Alice Fillion shot from close range, Tricia Deguire was perfect through the first two periods.
The Gee-Gees were finally able to break through minutes into the third when Fillion was able to beat Deguire for her first of the season. Colizza snuck in with less than 10 minutes to go in the game to finish getting the insurance marker for McGill.
The Gee-Gees were back on action Sunday for a trip to the newest member of the RSEQ, the Bishop's Gaiters. Looking to bounce back from a disappointing loss against the Martlets, the Garnet and Grey came out firing netting twice before the end of the first period. Both goals were scored by Christine Deaudelin, her first and second of the season. Mahika Sarrazin, who started her first regular-season game, was outstanding through two periods, picking up her first win as a Gee-Gee.
The Gaiters bit back in the third scoring early on the powerplay to bring the game to 3-1. Katherine Birkby extended the lead just over a minute later with a tremendous solo effort, stickhandling past a few defenders. Bishop's got another in the final moments of the period before Sophie Gareau put things beyond doubt. Christine Deaudelin got her hat trick when she put the insurance marker in the net to secure a 5-2 win for the Garnet and Grey.
The Gee-Gees are back in action Friday, Nov. 12 when they host the Montreal Carabins at 7:00 p.m. before Concordia make their first visit to the Minto Sports Complex on Sunday, Nov. 14 at 2 p.m.
