The Gee-Gees women's hockey team is on the road this weekend to take on the McGill Martlets on Friday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. The Garnet and Grey are back in action Sunday, Nov. 7 when they play the Bishop's Gaiters at 3:30 p.m.
The Gee-Gees opened the season with a scintillating win over the Concordia Stingers and returned to the Minto Sports Complex to play the Carleton Ravens, who shut them out. They will be looking to bounce back this weekend.
The Martlets come into Friday's game with a perfect 2-0 record following victories over Montreal and Concordia last weekend. McGill's netminder, Tricia Deguire was outstanding in both games, allowing just one goal on 70 shots. The Martlets attack was led by the duo of Marika Labrecque and Jade Downie-Landry who both notched five points.
The Gee-Gees are looking to get one over the Martlets who ended their 2019-20 season in a two-game sweep in the first round of the RSEQ playoffs. The Gee-Gees won the season series in regular season play with a record of 3-1-1. There was not much separating the two teams though with three of their five meetings requiring overtime.
After their trip to Montreal, the Gee-Gees head to Sherbrooke to face off against the newest team in the RSEQ, Bishop's University. The Gaiters lost their opening RSEQ game to the Ravens, 3-1 but bounced back later that weekend, beating the Montreal Carabins in a 4-3 thriller.
The Gee-Gees last meeting with the Gaiters was an exhibition game in October 2019. The Garnet and Grey walked away 5-1 victors on the day with current Gee-Gees goaltender Aurelie Dubuc starting that game. Kate Maclean, who already has one goal this season, scored in that game – the only returning Gee-Gee who found the back of the net.
