Four unanswered goals in a penalty-filled affair propelled the Concordia Stingers to a 5-1 victory over the Ottawa Gee-Gees Saturday afternoon at the Minto Sports Complex.
The teams combined for 12 total penalties, with three of the game's six goals coming on the man advantage.
The second-ranked Stingers opened the scoring in the second period, but the Gee-Gees responded just 33 seconds into the second. Abygail Moloughney potted her team-leading 11th goal of the year on the powerplay, banking the puck in off Concordia goaltender Alice Philbert.
Sophie Gareau and Viki Harkness were credited with assists on the play.
Moloughney is now second in the conference scoring race, trailing only Emmy Fecteau, who had four points in the game for the Stingers.
It was all Concordia the rest of the way however, with the defending National Champions outshooting their Ottawa-based opponents 37-20 in the contest.
The loss snaps a three-game winning streak for the Gee-Gees. Ottawa will be back at the Minto Sports Complex on Friday, Jan. 13. Puck drop is at 7:00 p.m. against the Bishop's Gaiters and tickets are on sale at tickets.geegees.ca.
The Gee-Gees are held their annual Showcase Tournament over the weekend, with participants being given free admission to the Ottawa-Concordia game. Players from John Abbott College, Cégep Limoilou, Cégep André-Laurendeu, the Nepean Wildcats, the Ottawa Lady Senators and the Gloucester Stars all took in the action.
