The Gee-Gees women's hockey team saw back-to-back victories this weekend against the McGill Martlets (7-2) and Carleton Ravens (4-3).
The women started the weekend off strong with a road win over the McGill Martlets Friday evening at McConnell Arena.
The Martlets opened the scoring, but the Gee-Gees stormed back in numbers with Alyssa Biesenthal tallying twice, along with Angélique Proulx and Arianne Gagnon scoring to give the team the lead. While the Gee-Gees slowed the game down in the second period of play, the third period saw Taylor Sims, Gagnon, and Kate Maclean extend the lead. The last time the women's hockey team scored seven goals in a game was Oct. 22, 2016, in a 7-4 win over the Carleton Ravens.
Gagnon racked up an impressive four points in Friday's matchup. Christine Deaudelin was the last player to notch four-or-more in a single game for the Gee-Gees, doing so against the Carleton Ravens on Dec. 5, 2021.
On Sunday evening the Gee-Gees hit the ice once more at TD Place for the Alerts Cup against their cross-town rival, the Carleton Ravens.
While it was a quiet start for the Gee-Gees, a clean faceoff draw in the offensive zone by Biesenthal led to a goal early in the second period for Abygail Moloughney.
Leaving the second period tied 1-1, Carleton proceeded to kick off the scoring in the third. Béatrice Bilodeau then added a tally to the Gee-Gees side to even the score. Capitalizing on the team's momentum, Sophie Gareau put one in less than one minute later to place Gee-Gees in front for the first time this game.
"The team was pumped before coming into the game and the fans brought a great atmosphere which made it all the more fun," said Gareau.
With only a few minutes left in the third period Carleton scored, sending the game into overtime. Kylie Lalonde showed up on the power play to win the Alerts Cup for the Gee-Gees, shooting the puck in the top shelf of the Ravens nest with fourteen seconds remaining.

"There were a lot of chances to score throughout the game, but when we got a power play late in the period it was time to win it then and there," said Lalonde.
"We kept on pushing forward and stuck to the game plan," said Gee-Gees head coach Chelsea Grills. "We are all happy with the results tonight."
Ottawa will be back on home ice at Minto Sports Complex on Friday, Jan. 27 against the Concordia Stingers. Puck drop is at 7:00 p.m. and tickets are on sale at tickets.geegees.ca.
