PREVIEW: #5 women’s rugby coming out of early bye week to face off against Montreal

Coming off an early bye week, the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees had the opportunity for some fine tuning after losing their own opener to one of their biggest RSEQ rivals, the Laval Rouge et Or. Ottawa was tested in their first game of the season, falling 12-10 to the reigning national champions. 

The Gee-Gees will be welcoming the Montreal Carabins to Matt Anthony field on Saturday, looking to even out their record with a win.

  • Converts: Jamie Lee Walker – 1  
• While the Gee-Gees ultimately loss their first game of the season, they fought right down to the wire, pushing into Laval territory before being stopped 10 yards short. 
• With the departure of Claire Gallagher, Jamie Lee Walker has taken over kicking responsibilities for the Gee-Gees, earning a convert in their first game. 
• In their last meeting against Montreal, Mosindi led the way for the Gee-Gees with 10 points, Tylo Borsboom and Rachel Steel also contributed tries.

• Montreal's most recent matchup was against Ottawa's only opponent so far this season. Montreal struggled against Laval and were unable to score a point in the 53-0 loss. 
• In their home opener, the Carabins faced off against the Gee-Gees crosstown rivals. The Ravens were victorious, defeating the Carabins 19-12. 
• In 2021, the Gee-Gees ended Montreal's path to the U SPORTS championship tournament. Montreal dropped the RSEQ semi-final game 37-7.
