RECAP: #5 women’s rugby dominate weekend in Ottawa to improve to 4-1
The Gee-Gees added a pair of wins to their record in a 68-0 win over the Ravens, and a 62-0 win over the Martlets.
"Three games in seven days is extraordinarily difficult in a physical contact sport like this," said Gee-Gees head coach Duncan McNaughton. "We're all just trying to do our part, everyone was smiling and helping each other, but we were fatigued, and we had to use every player in the squad to get it done so we were excited, it was a great week."
On Thursday afternoon, Ottawa headed across town to meet Carleton for a rematch of the 2022 RSEQ semi-final.
Emmanuela Anye, Ngozi Mosindi, and Tylo Borsboom led the way with three tries each while Isabelle Grisé followed with two and Aurora Bowie added one. Jamie Lee Walker sent four converts through the posts.
The win over Carleton marked the third consecutive victory for the Gee-Gees, who haven't lost since their season opener against Laval.
"It's so important that we keep the momentum going and that we don't slow down just because we're playing against teams we might not think are as strong and we don't play down to that level," Anye said. "We have to keep up our momentum for the entire season so we can set ourselves up for success."
The Gee-Gees were back on Matt Anthony Field for their final regular season home game.
Points were shared throughout the Ottawa squad as Ella Blyth and Mercedes Cole each scored two tries. Quynh-Ni Au, Bowie, Alysia Comtois, Taelor Hendrick, Julia Latremouille and Rachel Steel all contributed a single try each.
Bowie and Walker shared the kicking role, both securing three converts each.
Ottawa has two more regular season games on the schedule, their next matchup is against the 3-1 Concordia Stingers, who have also only lost to Laval. The Gee-Gees will head to Concordia Stadium on Sep. 30th.
