NEWS: Eight Gee-Gees selected to RSEQ All-Star Teams

The 2023 Gee-Gees women's rugby team had eight representatives selected to the conference All-Star teams, including four to the First Team and four to the Second Team.

Of note, fourth-year centre Emma Wade was named an All-Star for the third time in her career, becoming the sixth Gee-Gee in program history to be named an All-Star at least three times. In addition to her recognition in 2022, Wade was first named an All-Star in her rookie season in 2018.

Joining Wade as repeat All-Stars from 2022 are fourth-year lock Ketsia Kamba (Burlington, Ont.), fifth-year centre Sarah White (Peterborough, Ont.), third-year wing Ngozi Mosindi (Ottawa, Ont.), and third-year lock Rachel Steel (Ottawa, Ont.).

Tylo Borsboom, a computer science student from Winnipeg, Leigha Stiles, a Master's student in visual arts from Pembroke, Ont., and Deborah Oyetoran, a software engineering student from Ottawa, were all named to the All-Star teams for the first time. Borsboom has been a Gee-Gees team member since 2018, Oyetoran is in her third season at prop, and Stiles joined the Garnet and Grey last season after previously playing at Queen's from 2015-16.

Statistical highlights for the All-Star group include Kamba's team-leading nine tries and 45 points, which ranked her second and fourth in the conference, respectively. Kamba established career highs in both categories also moved into a tie for seventh in Gee-Gees career points scored in regular season play, with 90 over her four seasons in Garnet and Grey.

Mosindi and Borsboom each recorded six tries in the regular season, establishing new career highs. Stiles picked up two tries this season, matching her scoring from a year ago, while Steel's two tries were a new career high.

Wade and Kamba dressed for all six regular season matches with Wade starting four times at no. 2 and Kamba starting five times, twice at no. 4 and later three times at no. 5 with Stiles stepping into the no. 4 spot after two starts at no. 5.

Oyetoran wore the no. 1 for five matches, Steel donned the no. 7 for five, Borsboom was in the no. 8 jersey for five, and Sarah White made three starts at no. 12 to begin the season. Mosindi featured at the 14 for four matches, also making one start at 11.
