NEWS: Three Gee-Gees named to All-Canadian Teams
The Gee-Gees women's rugby team had the chance to celebrate as three team members were named First Team All-Canadians on Thursday evening at the U SPORTS All-Canadian Awards Ceremony in Quebec City.
Tylo Borsboom, Ketsia Kamba, and Ngozi Mosindi formed the trio of Gee-Gees honoured, and are the first group of three Gee-Gees to be named to the First Team of All-Canadians in the same season in team history.
Borsboom was the Most Valuable Player of the RSEQ Championship match, following a tremendous overall season at flanker. The product of Winnipeg set a career high with six tries in the regular season and was a vital part of Ottawa's success in lineouts and mauls this season. A team member since 2018, this season was the computer science student's first being recognized as a conference all-star and All-Canadian.
"Tylo is everything you want in a all-star number 8 - she is smart, courageous, and relentless," says Gee-Gees head coach Duncan McNaugthon. "She is the player no one wants to play against, and she is just scratching the surface of her potential."
Ketsia Kamba retained her All-Canadian status at lock, having also been named a First Team All-Canadian in 2022. Kamba, a communications and sociology student from Burlington, Ont., led the Gee-Gees with nine tries in the regular season and was also productive in the RSEQ final, punching in two more scores. Kamba has been an important contributor for the Garnet and Grey since her rookie campaign in 2019.
"Ketsia has been fun to watch, particularly in how she supports others to be their best," notes McNaughton. "By lifting others she creates an environment that pushes her to achieve. She is an elite rugby athlete and always plays big in tough games."
Ngozi Mosindi also set a career high this season with six tries in regular season play and makes the All-Canadian Team for the first time in her three seasons of increasingly excellent play at wing. A criminology student from Ottawa, Mosindi is a strong tackler and evasive playmaker on the outside. Or, as McNaughton would say, "She can side step you in a phone-box!"
McNaughton continues, "Ngozi always makes yards and gives the team forward momentum, and she's so good when she gets a glimpse of the scoring line."
